She told me that watching her dad play basketball contributed to her becoming a driven person:
Every weekend we would travel to his games. He wanted us to learn discipline, passion, hard work, teamwork. But he didn’t force a sport on us. They wanted us to decide what we liked. They never pushed us to like what they liked.
I trained to be a professional gymnast from the time I was six until I was thirteen. I had to audition to be in the program. I trained for hours every day, before and after school. I loved it. It taught me to work hard, to be committed and focused, and to be really tough. I wanted to be the best. I learned to compete against others who were better than I. It taught me so much.
My parents never pushed me. It was my own drive and determination, though I was influenced by their work ethic. Then I got too tall and started playing basketball. I did that for two years until I started modeling.
